Police in Kapelebyong district are on a manhunt for a 30-year-old man who attacked his mother and youngest sibling with a machete, gruesomely hacked them to death, and set their bodies on fire.
This incident happened in Adiyetau village in Kapelebyong Sub County, Kapelebyong district, and the suspect has been identified as William Otukoi.
The deceased have also been identified as Asele, the mother, and the youngest sibling, Ojirot.
According to preliminary investigations, Otukoi went to Asele’s house, attacked her and Ojirot with a machete, and brutally hacked them both to death. However, after doing the heinous act, he set the house on fire with Asele’s and Ojirot’s bodies inside and ran away.
During an interview with journalists on August 7, 2024, East Kyoga regional police commander Damalie Nachuha confirmed this incident and revealed that a manhunt has been launched to bring Otukoi to justice.
Nachuha added that after Otukoi brutally killed his family members, he ran away and was last seen on August 6, 2024, at around 4:00 p.m. in Onganyakonye, heading towards the Oditel village with a panga and spear.
’’Otukoi is now very dangerous to associate with because he was reportedly seen with a panga and spear as he was heading to Oditel village, so whoever sees him should inform the authorities immediately because he needs to pay for his crimes,’’ Nachuha emphasized.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Amuria for postmortem examinations as the manhunt for Otukoi continues.
This incident adds to the growing concern over domestic violence and mental health issues in the region, highlighting the urgent need for community support and intervention.
