Dokolo Woman By-election: UPC Promises to Fight Vote Rigging

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has vowed to work together with its party supporters to ring-fence the votes of the UPC woman member of parliament for the Dokolo aspirant to ensure that there is a free and fair election in Dokolo District.

According to Arach Oyat Sharon, the UPC spokesperson, the party will not allow any person or party to rig elections in Dokolo, adding that the party president is already on the ground to oversee the electoral process before and after the elections.

She made the revelation during the weekly press conference at party headquarters located at the Uganda House in Kampala on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

“UPC will not accept any plans for vote rigging, and the party will be on the ground until the last vote is counted and declared. The voice of the people of Dokolo should be heard without any interference,” Oyat said.

She also called upon all the stakeholders in the Dokolo by-election to execute their constitutional mandate accordingly to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

“I appeal to all election stakeholders on the ground in Dokolo to play their part to see that there is a credible election in the district,” she added.

Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) flag bearer in the forthcoming Dokolo district Woman Member of Parliament by-election, was nominated by the Electoral Commission on Monday 11, 2024, to contest with her counterparts from different political parties.

The polling day for the Dokolo District Woman Representative in Parliament and other Local Government Councillors will be conducted on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

The District Woman Representative seat for Dokolo became vacant following the death of the former Representative (MP), the Hon. Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, which occurred on January 18, 2024.
