Kampala Metropolitan Police have launched a full-scale investigation following a brutal armed robbery that claimed the lives of two security guards at Chard Energy petrol station along Katosi Road in Mukono District.

The violent incident occurred on May 1, 2025, in the wee hours of the morning in Nakazinga village, Nakisunga sub-county, when two unidentified assailants stormed the fuel station and fatally assaulted two security personnel, Deo Senabulya, 50, and Joseph Onyaiti, 25, reportedly with a blunt object murdering them instantly.

After killing the guards, the assailants stole a firearm from the slain guards, which contained five rounds of ammunition, then used the very weapon to threaten the pump attendants Jovita Tessa (23) and Kevin Domanye (22) robbing them of approximately UGX 3 million and their mobile phones.

The assailants fled the scene afterwards with their stolen loot and abandoned the firearm near a railway line close to the crime scene, where it was later discovered by the authorities.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, confirmed the incident and revealed that once the police officers were alerted about this horrific incident, they responded promptly, cordoned off the crime scene, and collected vital evidence.

SSP Onyango added that statements from eyewitnesses were also recorded, and the bodies of the deceased were transported to Mulago Hospital for postmortem examinations.

He strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that every effort is being made to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.

“This was a senseless and violent act. We are pursuing all leads to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice,”  SSP Onyango stated.

He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of violent attacks on petrol stations across Uganda in 2025.

In March 2025, police in Mityana District arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Otim Kizito, aka Justin, a 27-year-old private security guard at Moonlight Petrol Station in Bamunanika Cell, Mityana Municipality.

Otim, armed only with a club and torch, lost his life while on duty. Local residents reported that the station had been targeted multiple times, with this marking the third such attack within a year highlighting a disturbing pattern of repeated violence targeting fuel stations.

These incidents illustrate a troubling pattern of targeted violence against security guards at petrol stations across Uganda in 2025, with perpetrators often remaining at large and local communities expressing growing fear and frustration over repeated attacks.

As investigations continue, police have renewed their call for improved security measures at vulnerable locations and greater collaboration between fuel station operators, private security firms, and law enforcement.
