The Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant for Martha Nkwanzi, the daughter of murdered businessman Henry Katanga, and extended the widow’s criminal summons. Nkwanzi is one of the people implicated in Katanga’s alleged murder.

The arrest warrant was issued by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Elias Kakooza, on Monday, January 8, 2024, after Nkwanzi failed to appear before court.

Molly Katanga, the widow, is the subject of a criminal summons issued by Kakooza. Molly’s defence attorneys informed the court that Molly was recovering from a previous surgery and was not able to appear in court to face trial as the court had previously mandated.

“I have heard from both counsels that criminal summonses can be extended for the widow because she is still hospitalized. Martha Nkwanzi is an outpatient and cannot appear to attend court at her convenience. An arrest warrant was issued in respect of her,” Kakooza stated.

However, citing Section 55 of the Magistrate Courts Act, State Attorneys Jonathan Muwaganya and Anna Kiiza requested that the presiding magistrate issue an arrest warrant, arguing that Molly and Nkwanzi had failed to respond to previous court summonses.

“It is that Nkwanzi is somewhere at home and not hospitalized. The medical report that is being based on the defence is dated November 28, 2023,” Muwaganya said.

Nkwanzi and her sister, Patricia Kakwanza, are accused of tampering with evidence related to her father’s murder.

Henry Katanga was allegedly murdered by his wife, Molly Katanga, on November 2, 2023, after a domestic fight at Mbuya, Chwa 2, Nakawa Division in Kampala City.
