Court Charges Police Officer with Aggravated Trafficking

The Buganda Road Court has charged Deputy Superintendent of Police (D/SP), Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana with aggravated trafficking contrary to section 3(1) (a) and (4)(h) of the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act 2009.

HW Ronald Kayizzi, the Chief Magistrate at Buganda Road charged him on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

According to the Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga he was arrested by the CID and the Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police South.

“Police has charged Deputy Superintendent of Police (D/SP) Arinaitwe Gilbert Bwana, a Criminal Investigation officer, on criminal changes of trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation, at Buganda Road Court,” Enanga said.

He said that on July 25, 2023, the suspect forced a 23-year-old female victim from Ntungamo District into numerous acts of intercourse at his residence in Bandwe-Nalumunye.

“The suspect was arrested, investigated, and now charged to court. More charges are pending retrieval of DNA results,” he added.

Enanga committed to punishing Arinaitwe given that, the suspect is a Police officer who has a duty to safeguard the public and is a sworn member of the force.

Gilbert Arinaitwe Bwana commonly referred to as “the Besigye Tormenter” is known for having smashed Dr. Kizza Besigye’s car and sprayed him with pepper in 2011.
