Corporate League Teams Play for Charity to help Nodding Syndrome Victims in Kitgum

The football nations corporate league on Sunday, July 9, 2023, organized a football tournament held at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo Kampala to fundraise for victims of nodding syndrome disease in Labong Akwang Sub County, Kitgum district.

The Nodding syndrome is an uinexplained neurological condition characterized by episodes of repetitive dropping forward of the head often accompanied by other seizure-like activity such as convulsions or staring spells.

A total of 23 teams registered to participate each parting with Ugx 500,000 as participation fees, which funds will be donated to the victims of Nodding syndrome.

Apart from cash, other items such as sanitary pads, pampers, clothes, and beddings, among other basic home items have been given towards the cause.
There is also a health camp with blood donation, HIV/AIDS testing and counselling at the Gala.

According to Martin Ayebare, the tournament’s Chief Organizer, the event is strictly for a good cause and all proceedings will be delivered to the victims in Kitgum.

“We have in the past also helped the disabled kids of Katalemwa home for rehabilitation services and it’s from that event that we were contacted to help the victims of Nodding syndrome in Kitgum, a cause we decided to take on to put a smile on someone’s face,” Ayebare said.
The winner of the tournament will take home a grand prize of Ugx 1,500,000 and a trophy.

The tournament was sponsored by Jibu water and Kacyber technologies.

Among the team’s that have participated is KISOBA league, Parliament of Uganda, Kaggwa league, Kampala hospital, Comedy store, and Kampala hospital, among others.
