The Democratic Party (DP) Secretary General, also doubling as the East African Legislative Assembly-EALA Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Gerald Siranda Blacks has termed the ongoing wrangles in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party as healthy.

He made the remarks while addressing journalists at City House in Kampala on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

“These contradictions are healthy in a group of people. You can never think in the same way, even identical twins can never think in the same way. So for me, this is a healthy process. It tests our multi party dispensation in the front,” he said.

According to Siranda, those differences have always existed among political parties, like we have two or three people calling themselves DP presidents even when the party members know that they can never sign on anybody’s form, but they still call themselves DP’s presidents.

However, in response, Robert Centenary, the former Member of Parliament for Kasese Municipality, while addressing the presser at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, said that, DP shouldn’t be celebrating the conflicts in FDC because at least FDC hasn’t had a President who sits on the side of NRM in Parliament like DP’s (Mao).

This debate comes after what the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party is encountering at the moment as a result of the split among the top leadership, where one side supports Dr. Kizza Besigye Kifefe with Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda fronting Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, while another supporting Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi fronting Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
