Uganda Hosts 16th Chief Instructors’ Conference for African Commandants to Deal with Security

The 16th African Military Chief Instructors’ conference of Commandants taking place at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala Uganda, from Monday, July 17 to July 20, 2023, is covering assessment of contemporary security challenges and the changing nature of peace support operations in the African Union among others.

Major General George Igumba, the commandant, Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka (SCSCK) called upon African Military Chief Instructors, to formulate proposals for their commandants on how to promote compliance and enhancement of professional military standards, to ensure how to support the process of preparing middle level officers for higher responsibilities in both command and staff function.

“This is a clear illustration that the militaries of African continent are heading in the right direction towards finding African solutions to Africa’s problems,” Maj. Gen. Igumba said.

He stressed that, the importance of the workshop is to bring together African militaries to discuss issues affecting Africa, and emphasized its importance because the world and particularly Africa which is facing numerous security challenges and more so diversified security dynamics should be dealt with from time to time.

‘I urge the delegates to integrate different aspects that can enable staff colleges improve on their respective curriculum and education offered to the officers that are gearing to take over the mantle,” Maj. Gen. Igumba said.

In attendance are delegates from Bostwana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Malawi, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the host Uganda.
