The 13th EAC Armed Forces Command Post Exercise Ushirikiano Imara (CPX), 2023, has entered day two of induction Pre-exercise training, at the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC).
The purpose of the Pre-exercise is to ensure that all participants are fully oriented to successfully and resourcefully deliver the exercise objectives.
Basing on the EAC protocol and cooperation in defence affairs, the command post exercise clinics will stimulate the challenges faced in peace support operations to protect civilians in hostile environments.
The exercise also coordinates mechanisms in an integrated mission by combating terrorism, counter piracy and disaster management.
Maj Gen. Andrew Kagame, the Exercise Director thanked the partner states, EAC secretariat for their continued support, commitment and sacrifice in all stages of planning, and making the exercise a reality.
“We are all gathered here as one big family from EAC partner states to undertake the clinic program and execute what has been collectively planned for Ushirikiano Imara,” Brig. Gen Kagame said.
He further stated that the contemporary Peace Support operations (PSOs) have become complex with intensive, diverse interests of different parties both internal and external.
“The modern approach of PSOs has tremendously shifted in that it is not easy to differentiate between peacekeeping and enforcement,” Brig. Gen. Kagame said.
The Command Post exercise is running under the theme; “Strengthening the security sector integration and harnessing common interests consistent with EAC regional peace and stability.”
In November 2019, Uganda hosted the 12th Command Post Exercise code named, “Ushirikiano Imara.’’ The exercise took place at Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre, Jinja-Uganda. It comprises of 6 contingents from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda which was the host.
