Police in Kyankwanzi District have arrested Kasifa Nabakooza and her houseboy, known as Batara, for participating in the murder and defilement of a one-year-old baby of a co-wife.
This incident happened on September 13, 2024, in Kiryandongo in Kiryandongo Sub County, Kyankwanzi District.
The deceased has been identified as Majorine Nambuya, aged 1 year and 8 months, daughter to Geofery Katende and Tofisa Nakafeero.
According to preliminary reports, Nambuya was defiled and strangled to death, then later dumped in a newly constructed pit latrine behind their house when she was left in Nabakooza’s care.
Nabakooza sent Nakafeero’s elder daughter, Nakitende, who was taking care of the baby, to go to the market to buy guavas, and when she came back, she found her sister missing.
According to Nakitende, when she returned from the market, she asked Nabakooza about Nambuya’s whereabouts, and she claimed that she had disappeared.
Nakitende added that upon getting such news, she and her other sibling decided to search for Nambuya; however, she was found dead in a newly constructed pit behind their house. They then alerted the police about this incident.
During an interview with journalists on September 13, 2024, the Wamala region police spokesperson, ASP Rachael Kawala, confirmed this incident and disclosed that the two suspects were under police custody as investigations commenced.
ASP Kawala said that Nambuya’s body was removed from the newly constructed pit by police with hand marks around her neck and blood oozing out of her private parts, which shows that she was defiled as well before being killed.
’’It is so heartbreaking to have an innocent child killed in such a terrible manner; however, the two suspects have been arrested, and they are going to be further questioned by police.’’ Kawala noted.
Recent cases of defilement in Kyankwanzi district have drawn significant attention and concern from the community and law enforcement. In October 4, 2023, Cryton Amanya, aged 18 years, was arrested for aggravated defilement of two seven-year-old twin girls, and after medical examinations, it was confirmed that the girls’ private parts were damaged due to severe and repeated assaults from his sexual activities.
