Judiciary has dismissed false reports being circulated in the media claiming that the Chief Justice (CJ), Alfonse Owiny Dollo is critically ill.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, June 22, 2023 by the Judicial Spokesperson, Jameson Karemani, CJ Dollo travelled abroad for a medical treatment and will be back to office very soon.

“While it’s true that the Chief Justice is out of the country receiving some medical attention, it is not correct that he is critically ill, or ill at all,” the statement read.

The statement follows some media reports that were alleging that CJ Dollo is critically ill after failing to appear at several State functions and the memorial service of the late Supreme Court Judge Stella Arach-Amoko, who died on Saturday at Nakesero hospital.

However, during the memorial service which was instead presided over by the Deputy Chief Justice, Richard Buteera, DCJ confirmed that the CJ was out of the country, for now three weeks but assured Ugandans that he is getting better.

“It is painful that I will not be able to witness my sister (Arach) lowered to her final resting place because I am out of the country, for three weeks now, receiving some medical attention,” said Owiny-Dollo in his condolence message.

The Chief Justice’s health condition has led to several unfounded speculations among members of the public with many already believing that the reports. The Judiciary has however, told the public to stay calm and ignore the misleading rumors about CJ, thereby, assuring Ugandans that CJ Dollo will return soon to serve Ugandans.
