The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) boss, AIGP Tom Magambo, has issued a firm warning to individuals and groups attempting to incite unrest and chaos in the country.

Speaking at a press briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru on May 05, 2025, Magambo emphasized the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly in light of recent political unrest surrounding the detention of Eddie Mutwe, the bodyguard of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine who was reportedly arrested on April 26, 2025, in Mukono District.

“If anyone tries to cause trouble or hurt people, we’ll stop them. The Uganda Police Force, through the CID, is fully equipped to investigate and apprehend those who seek to undermine our nation’s peace,” Magambo said.

Magambo addressed reports of planned protests and disruptions linked to Mutwe’s controversial detention by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces. Magambo, whose contract as CID Director was recently renewed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, underscored the police’s readiness to counter any attempts to destabilize the country.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, warning that those found guilty of inciting violence would face the full force of the law.

His remarks follows a long week marked by heightened political tensions after the National Unity Platform (NUP) President called for solidarity rallies.

Magambo urged citizens to promote unity and exercise restraint, urging them to resolve grievances through legal channels.
