Uganda National Women’s U18 Football Team Vacates Camp, FUFA to Announce CECAFA Tournament

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 confirmed the departure of the Uganda National Women’s U18 Football team and its officials from the residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru after the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) postponed the tournament for the third time.

According to FUFA, the contingent of players and officials of the team have been in camps since June 12, 2023.

“The team has been in camp since 12th June 2023 in preparation for the CECAFA regional tournament in Kenya,” FUFA tweeted.

The CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship was originally scheduled to take place from June 24th to July 8th but was first postponed to between July 1st and July 15th, and now from July, 22nd to August 5, 2023.

However, according to organisers, FUFA will communicate any new future developments from CECAFA about the tournaments for proper arrangements.

FUFA clarified that the players are advised to return to their respective schools and clubs where they have been playing from.

According to organisers, the tournament is expected to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, and will feature seven teams such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, and Zanzibar.

The CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship is the first of several CECAFA tournaments that will be held in 2023.
