CDF Meets Congolese Awilo Longomba ahead of His Afro-exclusive Concert

Awilo Longomba, whose real name is Louis Albert William Longomba, is in Uganda to headline the much-anticipated concert.

The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has welcomed the Congolese soukous sensation Awilo Longomba to the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe ahead of his Afro-exclusive concert.”

According to the statement released by Colonel Deo Akiki, the Deputy Director Public Information of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), on September 2, 2024, in Entebbe, Awilo Longomba’s concert due to take place at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel will feature other international music legends.

“The event, set for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, will also feature Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike,” the statement read in part.

Gen Kainerugaba’s engagement with Longomba follows a similar meeting last year with the Jamaican music star, Konshens, where discussions centered around potential collaborations between the Jamaican and Ugandan music industries, emphasizing the vibrant and interconnected music scenes in both nations.

“The upcoming concert promises to be a celebration of African music and culture, bringing together fans from across the region for an unforgettable night,” the statement added.

This high-profile meeting also included Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, and NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong.

Awilo Longomba is renowned for his infectious hits, including “Karolina,” “Bundelele,” “Mobimba Ya Mama,” “Porokondo,” and “Champion.” Meanwhile, Chike has made waves with popular tracks like “Running,” “If You No Love,” “Insecure,” and “Roju.”
