The Chief of Defense Forces, General Wilson Mbadi, and the UPDF Commander Land Force, Lt. Gen. Muhanga Kayanja, have rushed to Kasese to join the ongoing pursuit of the ADF rebels who raided a secondary school.

Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, said both CDF and CLF are now in Kasese to conduct on-the-spot assessments regarding the Friday night, June 17th  incident that left more than 25 students of Lhubiria SS killed, while several others were abducted by the ADF rebels.

“The CDF and CLF are joining the Div Commander on the ground for on-the-spot assessment,” said Brig. Kulayigye.

He adds that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the Commander in Chief of all the armed forces in Uganda, has directed the education ministry to commiserate with the parents of the school.

“H.E. has dispatched the Minister of Education and Sports to commensurate with the school,” he said.

According to Brig.Gen. Kulayigye, the attackers’ pursuit has remained intense, and they hope to rescue the abducted.

“Our forces are pursuing the enemy to rescue those abducted and destroy this group,” said Kulayigye.

This is the latest attack by the ADF in several years, ever since they were defeated by the UPDF soldiers.

In 2022, the UPDF and the Congolese Army launched a joint operation called Shujaa in eastern DRC to pursue ADF rebels.

Early this year, over 40 ADF rebels were killed by UPDF soldiers after they attempted to cross into Uganda from the southwest region.
