Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, is set to launch a periodic podcast engagement to discuss regional affairs. The senior Army officer deactivated his famous X (Twitter) account a few days ago.
Veteran journalist and spokesperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Andrew Mwenda, disclosed the information on January 11, 2025, through a tweet.
According to Mwenda, Gen. Muhoozi deactivated his account from Fort Portal as part of efforts to reform and transform the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
“Yesterday in Fort Portal, the equivalent of the Xi’an (or Sian) Incident happened. The CDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for the good of UPDF, Uganda, and the region, deactivated his X (Twitter) account,” Mwenda stated.
He further explained that a group of UPDF officers had urged the general to step away from social media until the reforms were complete. “As a professional soldier, a patriot, a Pan-Africanist, and a man who loves the UPDF and Uganda above all else, the CDF conceded to the demand,” Mwenda noted.
As part of this transition, Mwenda revealed that Gen. Muhoozi will launch a monthly podcast titled Muhoozi-Mwenda Dialogue. The podcast will focus on history and current affairs at a strategic level, providing insights into critical issues. The first episode is scheduled for January 28, 2025, and will air on YouTube.
“Television stations can now bid for rights to broadcast it,” Mwenda added, signaling an opportunity for wider reach.
This development follows Gen. Muhoozi’s decision to prioritize the UPDF’s transformation while engaging audiences through alternative platforms to discuss strategic and historical matters.
