Captain Mike Mukula, the incumbent NRM Vice Chairman for the Eastern Region, has announced an ambitious plan to establish the region’s first dairy processing plant, a key part of his broader vision to industrialize the area and transform local livelihoods.
Speaking on Friday, August 8, 2025, to residents and NRM delegates at Petua Gardens in Katakwi Town Council, Mukula outlined a bold strategy for economic growth that capitalizes on Eastern Uganda’s untapped potential in dairy production.
“I am committed to building, through my group of companies, the first dairy processing plant that will add value to our milk,” Mukula declared. “While other regions have traditionally relied on exports such as tea, coffee, and tobacco, we have a unique opportunity to focus on dairy and create a competitive advantage.”
Mukula’s industrial portfolio already includes a multi-billion-shilling syringe manufacturing plant in Namanve and plans for a coffee processing facility in the Bugisu Cooperative Union. These projects reflect his long-term dedication to value addition and job creation in Eastern Uganda.
He praised the people of Katakwi for their unwavering support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and encouraged continued backing.
“I urge you to support President Museveni because he is on the right path,” he said.
Despite the region’s political stability, Mukula acknowledged the ongoing economic hardships faced by many residents.
“Our people are still very poor,” he emphasized, stressing the urgent need for bold economic interventions to uplift livelihoods.
On the health front, Mukula highlighted recent achievements, including the renovation and upgrading of Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.
He also announced plans to elevate Soroti University of Science and Technology into a national teaching hospital comparable to Mulago, promising enhanced medical education and services for the region.
Addressing security, Mukula reminded the audience of his pivotal role in establishing the Arrow Boys militia, which defended Eastern Uganda against LRA rebels.
“When the President recruited 16 battalions, I was here. Some of you saw me providing guns so you could defend yourselves. I never abandoned you,” he said.
Concluding his address, Mukula called on the people of Katakwi to rally behind his re-election bid, framing it as a choice for progress, stability, and economic transformation.
“When the time comes to stand with the right idea and correct direction, stand with Mukula,” he urged.
As he seeks another term, Captain Mike Mukula’s plans for industrial development, health improvements, and strengthened security offer a hopeful vision for Eastern Uganda.
Through initiatives like the dairy processing plant, he aims to create jobs, increase incomes, and improve the quality of life for the people of Katakwi and the entire region.
