The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the official campaign schedule for both Presidential and Parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2026 General Elections, setting clear timelines for political activities across the country.
In a press conference held on October 21, 2025, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi confirmed that Presidential campaigns, which began on September 29, 2025, will run until January 13, 2026, while Parliamentary campaigns will commence on November 10, 2025, following the conclusion of nomination exercises.
“The respective City and District Returning Officers will meet all nominated candidates between October 24 and 27, 2025, to harmonize their campaign programmes. Campaigns will then officially begin on November 10, 2025, and end on January 13, 2026,” Justice Byabakama announced.
He added that both Presidential and Parliamentary polling will take place on the same day on Thursday January 15, 2026, in line with Article 61(2) of the Constitution which guides the timing of national elections.
Justice Byabakama commended political parties, candidates, and security agencies for maintaining peace during the initial phase of the Presidential campaigns.
“The Commission appreciates all Presidential candidates, their agents, the Police, and the public for the peaceful and orderly conduct that has characterised the campaign period so far,” he said.
The EC further reminded all candidates to adhere to traffic and public order regulations, and to ensure that their campaign activities are conducted in accordance with the law.
“We urge all stakeholders to respect the guidelines, uphold mutual respect, and promote peace throughout the campaign and polling period,” he added.
The announcement forms part of Uganda’s 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap, outlining the next phase of campaign activities and preparations ahead of the January 15, 2026 polls.
