A fire has ravaged Cafe Bravo in Uganda House on Friday, April 5, 2024, leaving behind extensive destruction of property.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, revealed in a statement that the fire is alleged to have started at 5 a.m. and spread quickly to the whole restaurant.

“Today, April 5th, 2024, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to a fire outbreak at Cafe Bravo Restaurant, located at Uganda House on Kampala Road. The fire, suspected to have ignited around 5 a.m., swiftly engulfed the restaurant premises,” Owoyesigyire said.

He noted that, due to the prompt response of the police fire brigade, they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.

“Our dedicated team from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services promptly arrived at the scene and successfully contained the fire before it could spread further throughout the building. However, significant damage to the property ensued,” Owoyesigyire remarked.

Owoyesigyire said investigations into the cause of the fire outbreak are currently underway, with investigators actively gathering evidence at the scene to aid in determining the root cause.

He further noted that there were no injuries reported resulting from the incident.

“Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident. Further updates will be provided as soon as additional information becomes available,” he added.

According to the Cafe Bravo manager, the police helped by bringing four fire brigade units.

“They tried to do their level best, but the fire was beyond capacity. We thank God that no one was hurt, because the lives of people were saved,” the manager said.

On the other hand, those who helped in putting out the fire said that the fire came from the kitchen after it burst at once, blowing out the roof.

Workers are said to have found out this morning and were seen crying.
