CAF President Heaps Praises on Uganda for Outstanding CHAN 24 Success

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has commended Uganda for its outstanding role in hosting the CAF Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

In a statement delivered to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, on Sunday evening, Dr Motsepe expressed gratitude to the people of Uganda for their warm hospitality and successful organization of the tournament.

“Thank you and the people of Uganda for hospitality in hosting CHAN2024 in Kampala,” he said.

On behalf of CAF, Dr. Motsepe extended special appreciation to President Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, FUFA, and the passionate Ugandan fans for their dedication and commitment to the success of the championship.

The President also expressed his gratitude to the Local Organizing Committee, the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the fans who came in large numbers.

“I want to thank the Local Organizing Committee, as well as the Ministry of Education and Sports, led by Maama Janet, and everyone who contributed to the successful hosting of the tournament. Additionally, I thank the supporters who came out in large numbers to watch the matches,” he posted on his official X handle.

The championship, which showcased thrilling football matches and was marked by vibrant support from Ugandan football fans, who turned out in large numbers to cheer the teams, was also highlighted as a key factor in creating an electrifying atmosphere throughout the tournament.

However, Uganda Cranes’ fairytale run at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) came to a close at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, following a narrow 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal in the quarterfinals.

The 2024 African Nations Championship (Chan) leaned on Morocco who claimed their third title after defeating first-time finalists Madagascar 3-2 in a thrilling final that was played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
