CAF, FIFA Appoint Ugandan Safety and Security Expert Okello to Handle TotalEnergies CAF Champions League

The Ugandan safety and security expert, Dixon Okello, has been appointed by Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to handle the return leg final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League between Al Ahly (Egypt) and Esperance ST (Tunisia) on May 25, 2024, at Cairo International Stadium.

This development was confirmed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on their official X handle on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

“Internationally recognized Ugandan safety and security expert Dixon Okello has been appointed to handle the return leg final match of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League between Al Ahly (Egypt) and Esperance ST (Tunisia) on 25.5.2024 at Cairo International Stadium,” the post read in part.

According to the authorities, Okello will be working together with 15 other match officials appointed to manage other aspects of the final.

Okello, as a safety and security officer, is responsible for risk management, crowd management, and safe capacity calculations at stadiums.

In 2021, Okello was awarded the best Confederation of African Football (CAF) Safety and Security Officer in Douala, Cameroon. He was part of the security team at the recently concluded World Cup Trophy viewing.
