President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was among the East African leaders honored with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award.

The prestigious accolade was presented during the CAF Awards 2025 held in Rabat, Morocco on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, in recognition of his pivotal role in the successful co-hosting of the Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

President Museveni was jointly honored with his counterparts Kenya’s President William Ruto and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan for their collaborative leadership under the “Pamoja” initiative, which ensured the seamless organization of the tournament held from late July to early September 2025.

The event showcased world-class infrastructure and coordination across the three nations, culminating in a final in Nairobi where Morocco defeated DR Congo.

Although President Museveni was not physically present, the award was received on his behalf by a senior Ugandan government official.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe commended the East African heads of state for their exceptional commitment to football development and infrastructure, which has not only elevated the sport locally but also positioned the region as a credible hub for future continental tournaments. The same trio of nations is already preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The ceremony also showcased Africa’s finest on-pitch talents, with the night largely belonging to Morocco. Achraf Hakimi was named CAF Men’s Player of the Year, while his compatriot Ghizlane Chebbak claimed the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, marking a historic double for the North African nation.

Other major winners included Cape Verde’s coach Bubista, named Men’s Coach of the Year for securing his country’s first-ever World Cup qualification, and Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, who retained the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third consecutive time.

The CAF Awards are a special event ceremony created by CAF to recognise and celebrate the outstanding African football performers.

The awards honour both individual performances and collective achievements, highlighting the talent, excellence, and commitment of those who make an impact across the continent.
