Senior Police officers and Uganda Prisons Service officers have been exposed to both theoretical and practical approaches to learning, interacted with various resource persons, policy analysts, and practitioners, and visited projects to gain hands-on experience in the recently completed Senior Command and Staff Course at Bwebajja.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, while presiding over the pass-out ceremony of the 83 officers on August 2, 2024, urged them to put what they have studied into action to help improve the forces.
“It gives me pleasure to see the steps being taken to improve our forces. After this graduation, don’t leave what you have learned here; take it with you and put it into participation,” Gen Otafiire said.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, affirmed that the police will be conducting regular trainings to curb crime in Uganda.
“These multipliers have significantly reduced crime in the country, as is indicated in the recently released crime report 2023/2024. The Uganda Police Force has taken a decision that will see all men and officers undergo regular training, and I believe these trainings will equip officers with knowledge in fighting crime and career progression,” he noted.
According to the Uganda Prisons Service, the graduation ceremony is a celebration of their hard work and commitment to excellence, as they are ready to take on new challenges and responsibilities, driving positive change and progress in their respective fields like institutional leadership and management, anti-money laundering, countering terrorism, financial intelligence and mediation, and conflict transformation.
This milestone marks a major achievement for the officers, who have refined their leadership and strategic skills in service.
In attendance were other distinguished guests, including the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, Samuel Akena, senior officers from Uganda Prisons, and Uganda Police.
