The Busoga region is in high gear preparations to host the annual Kagulu Rock Climbing Challenge set for August 17, 2024, where former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, who is currently the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Minister for East African Community Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda, will be the chief guest.

During a press conference held at the iconic Kagulu Rock Heritage Site, the Tourism Minister, Owek Hellen Namutamba of Busoga, said that the festivities will commence on August 15 with a tourism exhibition featuring a vibrant mix of music, kickboxing, comedy, and a screening of the Kagoya Lusoga Film.

‘’The following day, the Miss Tourism Busoga finals will captivate the audience before the main event on August 17th, where the Kyabazinga himself will lead the climb,” Namutamba noted.

‘’We expect to attract over 40,000 participants from Uganda and neighboring countries,” Namutamba added.

She further emphasized that the challenge is not just about climbing, but it’s a celebration of Busoga’s culture and talent.

The minister also mentioned that at the main event, attendees should look forward to the crowning of Miss Tourism Busoga Queens, Miss and Mr. TikTok Busoga, and the Busoga Tourism Ambassador.

According to Namutamba, safety is a top priority, with the Red Cross and local hospitals on standby and a robust security team from Busoga North Police, which will be on the ground to ensure a secure environment for all participants.

She extended her gratitude to key stakeholders, including the Kyabazinga of Busoga for his instrumental role in promoting the event, President Museveni for his generous financial support, and Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga for her unwavering backing.

The rock located in Buyende district is said to be where the first Musoga Namutukula settled after crossing from Bunyoro Kingdom. Every year, the Kingdom organizes a rock-climbing challenge in August as part of efforts to recognize the significance of the rock.
