Bus Carrying Students, Teachers Catches Fire in Ngora

Police in Ngora are investigating a bus accident after it caught fire, that has occurred on August 23, 2023, near Atoot swamp along Mukongoro road, Palisa district, at around 1:00am.

According to SP Oscar Gregg Ayeca, the Police Spokesperson of East Kyoga region, the accident involved Isuzu bus registration number UAS 437P belonging to Kakise Coaches that was transporting 70 girls and 13 teachers from Palisa Primary School who were returning from a musical festival in Serere.

Ayeca said that the bus tyre ruptured hence igniting fire and immediately spread to the entire vehicle, but no death or injuries have been registered, however, the property on board was destroyed.

“During their journey there was a tyre burst which caught fire and quickly spread to the entire bus, but the students and teachers were safely evacuated with no injuries,” Ageca said.

He also stated that the Police Fire Department responded immediately to the incident and were able to extinguish the flaming bus.

However, the police has towed the wreckage to Ngora Central Police Station and are advising bus owners to always examine their buses before embarking on any tour.
