Judiciary has postponed the burial of late Justice Stella Arach-Amoko from Friday, June 23, 2023, to a later date that shall be communicated after the family agrees on the burial ground to finally lay Justice’s remains to rest.
The communication was made by Chief Registrar, Sarah Langa Sui of the Judiciary in a statement dated June 22, 2023.
“This is to inform you that due to factors beyond our control, the burial of the late Hon. Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko, Justice of the Supreme Court, will not take place on Friday, 23rd June, 2023 as had been planned,” Langa said.
She added that new dates would be communicated in due course.
This comes after the family of the late Justice Arach petitioned against the decision to bury their mother and sister at Adjumani, in a letter dated June 20, 2023 that was addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Judiciary Dr. Pius Bigirimana.
The advocates and legal consultants representing late Arach’s family identified as; Annette Yossa , Jackie Amony and Emmanuel Komakech who are her biological children; Christine Onyok (sister), Godfrey Picho (brother) and the Ragem elders.
According to the petition, the family said that it was the deceased’s wish to be buried at Nebbi near her biological father’s grave.
The family’s petition also indicated that, she expressed her wish while still at Nakasero Hospital on June 10 and 12, 2023, to her biological siblings (Onyok and Picho) respectively.
“The biological mother who is still alive and is waiting to receive and bury her deceased daughter next to her father’s grave,” the petition read in part.
The deceased’s children also contend that they have never been introduced to Adjumani and do not have any place of abode and attachment to that place.
In the petition, the children revealed that, they have never been shown any land or property in Adjumani which could enable them pay their respect to their mother as and when required.
Lady Justice Stella Arach-Amoko who was a Justice of the Supreme Court from June 2013 breathed her last on June 17, 2023 at Nakasero Hospital-Kampala.
