Bunyoro region, well known for its great significance to Uganda, and being one of the regions that is endowed with natural beauty and wildlife, is organizing to host this year’s World Tourism Day on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Boma Grounds in Hoima City, under the theme, Tourism and Green Investments. The guest of honor is expected to be Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority and partners have started a campaign dubbed Explore Bunyoro which will start from Tuesday, September 26 to October 1, 2023, with a wide range of activities.
Ahead of the WorldTourismDay23, Hoima City will host the Explore Uganda Corporate Football Tournament organized by Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, scheduled for September 26, 2023, at Boma Grounds.
Tourism and sports are interrelated and complementary, and Sports Tourism is a growing sector in Uganda. This particular tournament supplements the various activities lined up for the World Tourism Day 2023 celebrations.
The discovery of oil in the Albertine graben in 2006 was a springboard for general development in Bunyoro, and the tourism sector in the region has taken great strides since then.
The Government of Uganda has injected millions of dollars into the development of Hoima’s road network, including the 190-km Hoima-Kampala road, Hoima-Butiaba-Wanseko road, and Kyenjojo-Hoima-Masindi-Kigumba road, among others.
In this Explore Bunyoro campaign week, take time off your busy schedule and visit Bwendero Agro tourism farm, Butiaba Escapement and rift valley, Kibiro hot springs and salt mines, Oil Wells, Kabalega Airport, Bunyoro Kingdom palace, Itohya forest, Lake Albert and Murchison Falls National Park.
On the eve of World Tourism Day celebrations, let every Ugandan embark on a journey of wonders in Bunyoro Kingdom. From the shores of Lake Albert to the lush landscapes of Murchison Falls National Park, each step revealing a piece of nature’s masterpiece.
One needs to embrace adventure, connect with the warm hearted locals and enjoy a rich culture waiting to be explored.
Also dive into the history of Bunyoro Kingdom by visiting the Omukicaica also known as ‘Orukanga rwa Akaraca’, where Omukama Kabalega passed while heading to Bugangaizi, where the legend has it that at this point, he walked on water.
The Explore Bunyoro campaign, like other editions of Explore Uganda will give much needed highlight to the various tourist attractions in the region and promote tourism in Uganda. Let’s embrace domestic tourism and boost the local travel component.
