The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has been blocked from accessing the rally venue at Boma grounds in Bundibugyo district, where he had planned to address his supporters on July 15, 2024, as he resumed his countrywide tour.

While addressing the crowd after opening the party offices in Bundibugyo town, Kyagulanyi asked his supporters to remain calm as he delegated Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), who is also the party spokesperson, and the party Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya, to laise with the police to allow his supporters to head to Boma grounds, but the conversation didn’t yield any positive results.

The party leaders and supporters were blocked from crossing Bundinbugyo town and were ordered to turn back.

“I request all of you to remain calm and let’s see whether it is the police or my supporters who are breaking the law,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi further asked the people of Bundibugyo to emulate the Kenyans and stand up for their rights.

“You have all seen what’s happening in Kenya; people power is stronger than people in power; if you don’t stand up for your rights, no one will,” Kyagulanyi added.

NUP released their western region road map for their countrywide tour, and they will be heading to Bushenyi in the Ankore sub-region on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

The countrywide tour is meant to mobilize party supporters ahead of the 2026 general elections and also open new offices in the visited districts.
