Police in Bukomansimbi have arrested Cotilda Namuddu, a 75-year-old woman, as a suspect in the stabbing to death of her 16-year-old granddaughter, Immaculate Nanziri.

Namuddu claimed that Nanziri was stabbed to death by unidentified thugs as she was bathing in the outside bathroom; however, upon inspection of Namuddu’s house, a lot of exhibits showed that her initial statement was faulty.

The Greater Masaka police spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, confirmed Namuddu’s arrest on September 5, 2024, and revealed that blood was found in her house, yet she claimed that the deceased was stabbed from the outside bathroom before she died in the compound.

SP Kasirye added that the deceased’s clothes and a house rag that had blood were found in a basin inside Namuddu’s house.

’’After Nanziri was stabbed to death, police were called, and they sealed off the house and prohibited people from entering it until investigations were done; however, when they were inspecting the house, they found blood and other exhibits inside Namuddu’s house, which show that she lied about Nanziri’s death and knew something,’’ Kasirye stated.

Kasirye added that police found Nanziri’s clothes with blood, a brush, a house rag, and a basin with blood on the floor inside Namuddu’s bedroom, which shows that someone was trying to get rid of the evidence.

’’The bathroom that Namuddu claimed to be the murder scene did not have any blood at all, but her house had more blood on the cemented floor that was not scrubbed off well,’’ Kasirye revealed.

Kasirye disclosed that Namuddu was arrested as a main suspect so as to aid in the investigations because her statement about her granddaughter’s death contradicts what police found in her house.

This incident happened on September 3, 2024, in Kiwenjula Kawoko village in Butenga Sub County, Bukomansimbi district, when unidentified thugs allegedly stabbed and killed a 16-year-old girl.
