The Makerere-Kikoni-based church, House of Prayer Ministries International, belonging to city pastor Aloysius Bujingo, is under social scrutiny after his wife and co-preacher, Suzan Makula, uttered deceitful remarks against the National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobiwine.

It is alleged that while addressing followers in a Sunday church service on October 27, 2024, Makula advised the believers to vote wisely, cautioning them against voting for those who engage in drug abuse and promotion of homosexuality.

Makula’s bold assertions sparked a social media uproar, especially after being quoted as emphasizing that electing a marijuana smoker as president would turn the State House into a ghetto with marijuana prevalence around Nakasero.

Many tweeps took to their X handles expressing their concern about the prominence of church politics and ridiculed the church for lacking a deep-rooted foundation in Christian core values, calling it a house of player, while others referred to it as a house of player mini-strays.

“Bugingo was good at first, but politicizing the gospel made him and his wife run mad,” Ivan T tweeted.

The academically sharp-witted cartoonist Jimmy Spire drew of Makula speaking eloquently at the altar earlier, and in the second image, a while later, she was hiding behind the podium for fear of the stones flung at her, showing the public backlash after her remarks.

The criticisms show the extent to which politics has seeped through the church and corrupted its values.

However, amidst all the hullabaloo on social media, Kyagulanyi and his party members remain silent about the matter, but it questions the misuse of speech and calls for stronger regulations to govern houses of worship.
