
Rukungiri District has officially welcomed its new Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Bron Kikanshemeza, who previously served in Rubirizi District.
Kikanshemeza replaces Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, who had served as RDC of Rukungiri for over four years and was recently transferred to Pakwach District.
Before Kikanshemeza’s arrival, Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom had been acting in the role since last Thursday.
The official handover took place this morning August 4, 2025 at the RDC’s office located at Rukungiri District headquarters in Rukungiri Town.
Present at the handover were Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ongom, Assistant RDCs Karen Kagisha and Mabel Mirembe, Deputy District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Sam Kamugisha, Jackson Mugarura from the DISO’s office, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Hilary Agaba, and other staff from the RDC’s office.
In his remarks, Deputy RDC Wilberforce Ongom warmly welcomed Kikanshemeza and praised the strong teamwork and collaboration within the district leadership.
“We are happy to welcome Bron Kikanshemeza to Rukungiri. As a district, we value teamwork and unity, and I’m confident this same spirit will continue under his leadership,” Ongom said.
The new RDC, Bron Kikanshemeza, called for cooperation and teamwork among district leaders.
He urged officials to be active in the field, rather than remaining confined to their offices, in order to effectively deliver services to communities.
“Let us not be officers who stay in offices only. Our people are in the villages, and we must go to the field and interact with them to understand their problems better,” Kikanshemeza said.
“I am here not to rule, but to serve the people of Rukungiri with humility. Together, we can achieve much more if we cooperate,’’ he added.
Kikanshemeza pledged to support all district programs and promised to work closely with all leaders to ensure that government services reach the people effectivel
