Brigadier General Christopher Damulira, the Chief of the National Criminal Investigations Department of the Uganda Police Force, has urged young people to abstain from drugs, prostitution, and other addictions.

He made this statement while inspecting the work of slum residents in Kazo, Kawempe division, and asked the government and all stakeholders to support the people of Kazo at all times.

“As government, we need to empower our youth with the requisite skills that they need to continue making bags, clothes and all that, because that’s our responsibility to ensure that every Ugandan has something like a source of income,” Damulira said.

He urged young people to put in a lot of effort and stay away from vices that could cost them their lives, such as burning tires during protests, prostitution, and drug usage.

“I appeal to you people to avoid drugs, and prostitution because such activities don’t build people, but destroy people,” he added.

Damulira also implored them not to be used by politicians who have an agenda to disrupt the country, which is a peaceful one.

“The reason Uganda has so many foreigners is because it’s a peaceful and loving country. However, the politicians will deceive you into believing that we are unstable and urge you to strike. Stay away from such people,” he said.

He reassured them that as government, they will support them for their development, if they are enthusiastic about its programs, which have the ability to change their lives.

Kawempe ghetto residents such as Katooke, Kigwa, Kasoolo and Kamponye, among others decided to start learning crafts, including sewing, tailoring and developing various skills to help them survive.
