Crowds gather at Namumira Crossing in Mukono District after a Trinity bus collided with a train on Thursday morning

A Trinity passenger bus has collided with a train early Thursday morning at Namumira Crossing along the Katosi Road in Mukono District. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m., according to eyewitnesses.

Preliminary reports indicate that no casualties have been reported so far. However, the bus driver was arrested on the spot by officers from the Uganda Railway Corporation (URC) Police.

As of press time, Uganda Police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The crash comes just months after the Mukono–Kampala train service was relaunched and extended in late 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion on the busy Kampala–Jinja highway.

In response to the incident, Uganda Railways Corporation reiterated its safety advisory to motorists, urging maximum caution at railway crossings.

URC emphasized adherence to regulation 13 of the Traffic and Road Safety (Rules of the Road) Regulations, 2004, which mandates drivers to stop and ensure the way is clear before crossing railway lines.

Under Section 41(5) of the URC Act, 1992, trains have the right of way at all level crossings. URC highlighted that trains cannot come to a sudden halt due to operational limitations, hence the need for heightened caution.

The Railway authorities assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety through continuous public awareness campaigns and strict enforcement of railway safety regulations.

This is a developing story.
