The police in Kakumiro have called upon anyone with a missing person to go check up on an unidentified decomposing body of a male that is lying in the mortuary of Kakumiro Health Centre IV.

According to police, the deceased’s decomposing corpse was discovered on June 14, 2024, late in the evening at the roadside in Mutabwa cell, Mutabwa ward in Kakindi town council, Kakumiro district, by passersby who later alerted the area authorities. He is believed to be around the age of thirty.

During an interview on June 17, 2024, Julius Twesige, the area LC1 chairperson, said that the deceased was not a resident of the area and that he could have been murdered from elsewhere by the assailants who later transported his body and dumped it in Mutabwa cell.

Twesige added that the deceased’s body was found with no documentation on it but had deep cuts on the head, face, and neck; however, there was no blood around or scuffle where his body was found, which further shows that it was just dumped there to kill evidence.

’’It is so sad that the family of this young man might be looking for him but have no idea that his body is stuck here in a mortuary due to a lack of documentation,’’ Twesige disclosed.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed that the body of the deceased is still lying in the Kakumiro Health Centre IV mortuary and called upon anyone with a missing person since last week to go to this health center and identify the body.

Hakiza also added that when police were called to the scene of the crime, the body of the deceased had no documentation on it, which is why the body is still trapped at the health center mortuary IV.

’’Whoever has a missing relative should come to Kakumiro Health Centre IV mortuary and see whether this undocumented body belongs to their family,’’ Hakiza disclosed.

The police will release a statement after the investigations are complete.
