The leader of the National Unity Platform party, Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, has asked security authorities to release over 300 supporters who were arrested for organizing the flopped One Million March.

Kyagulanyi was picked up on Thursday, October 5th, from Entebbe International Airport by security and whisked to Magere, his residential home in Wakiso District.

While addressing the media from Magere, Kyagulanyi claimed that security had arrested over 300 of his supporters who were mobilizing for the one million march.

“In the strongest terms possible, I condemn the brutal treatment of journalists from different media houses, by regime operatives today. They were beaten, pepper sprayed, and their gadgets confiscated before many were arrested and taken to Entebbe Police. They were targeted for covering some of the abductions, violent arrests and the manner in which I was arrested at the airport. Like we constantly say, under a criminal regime, everyone is a victim. We must work collectively to redeem motherland from this mess!” said Kyagulanyi.

MP Luis Rubongoya, the NUP Secretary General, claimed security had besieged both their offices at Kavule and Kamwokya.

SP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said security did not arrest Kyagulanyi but rather he was only picked up and escorted to his home.

“We wish to inform the public that the NUP President, Kyagulanyi Robert, was successfully escorted by our security team from Entebbe to his home in Magere,” said Onyango.

According to the police, Kayagulanyi reached his home around 11.20 a.m., and he is with his family and friends.

On Thursday, security was deployed heavily across Kampala City, Entebbe, and some parts of Wakiso in preparation to avert any possible violent riot by the opposition supporters.
