Tensions are brewing in Oyam North County, Oyam district, ahead of the Thursday by-election to replace the fallen former late Minister of Labor, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo.

Obua said while in Oyam North, President Museveni will address a rally to drum up support for NRM candidate Junior Samuel Engola.

According to GCW Obua, NRM leaders have been traversing the area, mobilizing for votes ahead of the by-elections describing it as promising.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the leader of the opposition National Unity Platform Party (NUP), is expected to join the trail a day before President Yoweri Museveni camps in the Constituency to rally support.

Four candidates, including NRM  flag bearer Samuel Junior Engola, UPC Candidate  Dr. Eunice Otuku, Daniel Okello (NUP), and Fred Newton Okello (FDC), are battling for the victory.

The Electoral Commission has gazetted July 6th, 2023, as the date to conduct elections to replace the former Oyam North County Member of Parliament, Col. (Rtd) Engola, who was assassinated by his bodyguard in May.
