Former Presidential Candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, has threatened to skip court proceedings connected to his treason case citing unfair treatment and a lack of transparency in the courts of law.

According to Besigye, Justice Emmanuel Baguma has become a prosecutor and judge at the same time which doesn’t reflect professionalism.

“If you continue treating us unfairly like this, we will stop coming to court. We will not participate in a process designed to legitimise persecution,” Besigye said.

While responding to Justice Emmannuel Baguma on Thursday March 12 2026 at the high court in Kampala, Besigye allegedly said that the state has resorted to a circus of injustice, to continue playing games with their freedom.

The PFF leadership also accused the prosecution of filing a secret application to conceal 6 witnesses and key evidence which hindered their defence team from responding accordingly.

“Justice Baguma fixed a hearing for this application without even serving the defence lawyers yet valid applications from our leaders are dismissed with contempt, while every whim of the state is granted,” PFF said.

“Prioritising secrecy over fairness isn’t justice, it’s a desperate attempt to hide the truth. If the state has a case, why hide the evidence? If the law is supreme, why fear the light?,” PFF questioned.

The party leadership stated that Besigye is not seeking justice in court but he is testing its credibility and exposing the injustices in court for the country to witness.

“The walls of the courtroom are high, but the will of the people is higher; we do not beg for justice from our captors, we shall dismantle the cage until every soul is free,” PFF said.

Dr Besigye was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya, on November 16, 2024, and later charged with treason and security-related offences.

Media reports indicate that the charges are linked to allegations of plotting to overthrow the Ugandan government by force, which is considered treason under the Constitution
