Belgian Ambassador Applauds Museveni for His Stewardship in Stabilizing Uganda

His Excellency Hugues Chantry, the Belgian Ambassador to Uganda, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for his effective leadership in stabilizing Uganda and promoting pan-Africanism across the region.

He acknowledged the crucial role of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), praising their efforts in restoring peace and stability not only in Uganda but also in neighboring countries such as Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Ambassador Chantry said this on September 5, 2024, while at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MODVA) headquarters in Mbuya, where he was welcomed by Jacob Marksons Oboth, the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

The primary focus of the meeting was to strengthen the bilateral relations between Uganda and Belgium.

Oboth reiterated Uganda’s appreciation for Belgium’s ongoing commitment to the country’s development agenda. He expressed a desire for continued collaboration with Belgium in various sectors, extending beyond just security.

This meeting highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to enhance their strategic partnership, with both sides eager to explore new avenues for cooperation.

According to Oboth, the support and acknowledgement from international partners like Belgium remain vital for Uganda’s ongoing development and stability efforts.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including MODVA Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma and Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding.
