The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has called upon Ugandans to be vigilant and be each other’s keepers during the festive season.

The development was confirmed in a statement dated December 21, 2023, by the party president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

Amuriat urged Ugandans to portray the aspect of love to family and friends in order to keep the festive spirit alive.

“The Christmas season accords us the opportunity to go back to our families and communities. It is a time of reflection, showing love through sharing and bonding ties,” the statement read.

Amuriat sympathized with families who will not be able to join their families in the festive season due to economic and social hardships like land evictions, especially in areas of Buganda, Bunyoro, and Acholi-subregion.

“We do not expect them to enjoy Christmas when they are being threatened by the “mighty” of the land from their ancestral homes,” the statement read in part.

Amuriat’s message comes at a time when the FDC Party is working to unite its members after a period of internal disagreements.

“Fortunately, as we said in our recently concluded national council, the FDC has had its fair share of disagreements where one group has been pitted against the other. Overcoming the storm with a focus on unity and party growth: Now that the party’s storm has passed, we continue to seek communication with our colleagues who have disagreements with us. We are optimistic that we have emerged stronger,” the statement added.

Amuriat said his message of love, unity, and hope is a reminder that, despite our differences, all Ugandans must work together to build a better future.
