The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) has been urged by Lieutenant Colonel Emmy Katabazi, the Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organization (ISO), to strive towards being sane revolutionary fighters for the benefit of their nation and all of Africa.

He spoke on September 29, 2023, during the annual general meeting and student council, that was held at Lubiri Secondary School.

Speaking to a crowd of hundreds of students, Katabazi advised  UNSA students to embrace their Pan-African spirit and practice patriotism in order to see themselves as potential agents of positive change in Uganda. He pointed out that the majority of Uganda’s notable revolutionaries were also students.

“Some of those who led the revolution to liberate this country were students in high school and universities just like you. President Museveni at senior six, left Uganda and went to Dar El Salam, picked the gun, and fought for the liberation of Mozambique with General Salim Saleh who left in senior two,” Katabazi said.

The ISO boss implored students to learn about government programs like the Parish Development Model and help in the implementation process.

“You should learn about government programs as leaders of today and help such programs to be implemented without corruption,” he added.

Additionally, he expressed his appreciation to UNSA students who organized a protest against a UN resolution aimed at delaying the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project, which is expected to provide jobs for Uganda and other East African nations.

“I saw brilliant young people who understood the problems of Africa on that day. And it is good that some of those students came from within you,” he noted.

The Kampala Capital City UNSA coordinator, Kizito Isaac, emphasized the accomplishments of the association by mentioning that students have engaged in national discussions and received leadership training, among other things.

However Kizito noted that the association has also faced some challenges including uncooperative administrators of some schools and lack of information and knowledge about
the association among students.

Elizabeth Mirembe from Kitante Hill School revealed that students of UNSA from her school have acquired leadership skills from the associaton, since its core aim is
to produce leaders with the desired knowledge to solve the current problems of the country.

Okiror Jerry, a student from Kyambogo College who was vying for the post of chairperson of the Kampala District Committee said that the association is a platform to promote stability in the country and develop the political careers of the young blood.

UNSA students commended Lieutenant Colonel Emmy Katabazi for the continued financial and leadership support he has rendered to the association.

The annual meeting was attended by students from different secondary schools in Kampala and teachers including Nabisunsa Girls S.S, Kibuli Secondary School, Kyambogo College, Kitante Hill School, Mengo Senior Secondary School, and Kawempe Muslim School, among others
