Police in Arua City have intensified the hunt for people who killed a 16-year-old boy who was caught having sex with his girlfriend and later dumped his body in a swamp.

The incident happened at Nyai Cell, Kati Ward, Ayivu Division in Arua City, and the victim has been identified as Richard Waiswa, a primary six pupil of Kova Primary School in Arua City.

On June 7, 2024, Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson, said Waiswa left his home to visit his girlfriend (a classmate); however, the girl’s relatives caught them having sex, beat him up to death, and dumped his body in a swamp.

She said that when the body of the deceased was retrieved from the swamp, it was taken to the Arua Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem was done, and the body was later handed over to the relatives for burial.

Angucia added that preliminary reports indicate Waiswa died due to the multiple injuries and cuts he got on his head while being beaten; however, his body was dumped in a swamp in the Ayivu division to kill evidence.

’’The body of the deceased was discovered by the area LC I Chairperson, who reported it to the police, and now we have opened a murder case against Waiswa’s killers,’’ Angucia revealed.

Angucia further urged the general public to stop taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that it is unlawful and that the culprits shall be charged with murder and tried before court.
