Police in Arua city have in custody a 48-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife over inadequate conjugal attention.

The police have identified the suspect as James Agunda, a resident of Obaru cell in Ombokolo ward, Arua city. The police further said that the suspect is currently being held at Ayivu East CPS on an allegation of murder by assault.

In the police statement released on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, said that the suspect reportedly attacked and gravely assaulted his wife, Judith Chandiru, aged 23, on the night of March 1, 2024, after accusing her of denying him sex.

Police confirmed that the suspect had also accused his wife of having extramarital affairs, claiming it’s the reason why she had reportedly been denying him sex.

The victim later passed away due to injuries inflicted on her body by her husband.

“During the night of 1.03.2024, the suspect picked a quarrel with his wife, and she left the bed for him and slept down on another mattress. The angry husband followed and grabbed her, then hit her around the ribs. The victim fell to the floor and succumbed to the injuries. The suspect went and handed himself over to the police,” the police report reads in part.

Enanga said that the facts gathered indicate that the couple has been sharing their marital bed, but without sexual affairs.

The scene was documented, the body of the victim examined, and handed over to the relatives for burial.

Police units across the country have continued to register gruesome murders in the domestic setting of spouses, especially women and wives by their husbands, over denial of conjugal rights and other extra-marital concerns.
