Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has praised David Raya’s double save, saying that it is probably one of the best saves that he has ever seen in his career.

Arsenal played a goalless draw with Atalanta in the first week of the Champions League season on September 19, 2024, at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.

“That is probably one of the best saves that I have ever seen in my career, both the penalty and the second action from David,” Arteta said.

The highlight of the match was when Arsenal goalkeeper Raya made an incredible double save from the penalty to deny Atalanta victory.

In the first half, Thomas Partey tripped Ederson in the box to gift Atalanta the opportunity to open the scoring; however, Raya saved Retegui’s spot-kick and then managed to keep out the follow-up in a remarkable display.

According to Arteta, the match was not the nicest to watch because everyone became a man-to-man everywhere.

He also said that the team gave a lot of balls away very simply, and they could not get any rhythm or momentum without conceding anything apart from that penalty.

Arsenal are second in the Premier League, with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches, while Atalanta have won two and lost two of their opening four matches in Serie A and sit ninth in the Italian top flight.
