The Anti-Corruption High Court Division sitting in Kololo, Kampala on Tuesday, August 8, 2023,  charged State Minister for Finance and Planning Amos Lugoloobi with two counts.

Minister Lugoloobi appeared before the High Court’s Anti-Corruption Division in the company of his lawyers and was charged with two counts of dealing with suspect property contrary to Section 21a(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009.

The suspect iron sheets were meant to empower vulnerable Karamoja communities. Minister Lugoloobi has denied any involvement with over 700 pieces of pre-painted iron sheets before Justice Margret Tibulya.

Minister Lugoloobi, together with two other colleagues, are battling charges of dealing with suspect property and abuse of office, among others.

The charges stemmed from his alleged involvement in the mismanagement of iron sheets meant for vulnerable people in the Karamoja region.

Recently, the court pardoned Lugoloobi’s bail terms and gave him his diplomatic passport on the grounds that his line of work requires him to travel a lot.

The prosecution alleges that Lugoloobi, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ntenjeru North constituency in Kayunga district, wrongly obtained 700 pre-painted iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region. The Anti-Corruption Court made a decision to make a final decision on Lugoloobi’s bail hearing on the 20th of April.

Lugoloobi, who is accused of misappropriating iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region, was arrested on Friday, April 14, 2023, and held at the Kira Road Police before he was given cash bail of Sh10 million.

Lugoloobi is among the government officials who received iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region.
