The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted and sentenced former State Prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Simon Kigwana to 10 years in prison, following corruption allegations.

In 2019, Kigwana was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in liaison with Uganda Police after he solicited a gratification of  UGX 6 Million from court users in order  to object bail in a criminal case at Nabweru Chief Magistrates Court.

According to court, he was then convicted on October 10, 2023 on two counts of Corruption and asked to pay a fine of UGX 7Million in addition to not holding Government office for the next 10 years.

His conviction and sentence follows that of three officials from Hoima District, Vice chairperson Chiche Benson, Secretary for production Jackson Magambo and secretary for Finance Geoffrey Kumakech, after they forged executive committee minutes alleging that they had been authorized to hire out road equipment to private individuals.
