The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force (CID), have arraigned a businessman before the Kira Chief.
Magistrates Court on Charges of Malicious Damage to Property
According to the Anti-Corruption Unit, Sulait Semakula, proprietor of Sema Properties, and others still at large maliciously destroyed property belonging to 99-year-old Namazzi Helena at Buloli Namugongo-Kira division, Wakiso District, between December 14 and 28, 2022.
On January 9, 2023, the Grade One Magistrate’s court remanded Semakula to Luzira prison following the accusations levied on him, and on January 24, 2023, he was granted a 5 million in cash bail following one week’s detention.
Semakula has now been remanded to Luzira Prison until November 14, 2023.
This follows an arrest by the Anti-Corruption Unit, where five suspects, including George Byomugabe, John Bosco Mugisha, Doreen Mugisha, Frank Kigundu, and Kyobutungi Barbra, forged a contract for the supply of solar street light systems purportedly from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to be issued to a Serbian investor with the intent to defraud him of USD 50 million.
