The death toll from the Friday night, June 26, 2023, attack on Lhubiriha Secondary school in Mpondwe, Kasese district has risen to 43.
This is after Felistus Mbambu who was among the people that sustained injuries during the attack at the school by suspected ADF rebels died the evening of Tuesday, June 20, 2023.
Mbambu and six others were rushed to Bwera General Hospital on Saturday morning in critical condition after being found lying unconscious and bleeding profusely in a compound.
Mbambu who had earlier lost her husband Zakayo Masereka and her mother in-law Florence Masika in the attack, had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since Saturday night, June 17, 2023.
The Bwera General Hospital Administrator, Clarence Bwambale Mumbahya said that Mbambu’s death now brings the number of victims who have so far died from the facility to three since the attack.
Currently, the hospital remains with only one patient identified as Godwin Mumbere, an 18-year-old student of Lubiriha who was reportedly shot in the hand by the suspected ADF rebels. The hospital administration said that his health condition is steadily improving.
According to the government and residents’ reports, 43 people have died in the Friday night attack in which 37 of them are students while others are recovering from hospitals after suffering life threatening injuries.
