FDC President Amuriat sends Ssemujju, Katonga Group for Disciplinary Action

In a move, a section of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party members view as strengthening his grip on power, party president, Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat, has committed seven party leaders including Spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda to FDC Disciplinary Committee to answer various charges.

According to the letter dated August 8, 2023, addressed to the Chairperson of FDC Disciplinary Committee, James Otto, the party President accused fellow leaders of hostilities against the party, failure to execute and absconding from FDC duties.

“I proceed under article 28(3)(b)(iii) and acting in consultation with the party working committee to request you convene meetings of the committee on discipline to hear and dispose cases of hostility towards the party, failure to execute and absconding from (FDC) duty,” Amuriat noted.

Other party leaders to face FDC disciplinary committee include; Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago (the acting FDC Deputy President), Kennedy Okello-the Acting Deputy Secretary for Presidency, and Dr. George Okello Ekwaro-the Acting Deputy Secretary for Mobilization and Secretary for Works and Transport, and Mubarak Munyagwa-the Acting Secretary for Mobilization, among others.

According to the letter, Amuriat has made decisive resolutions including testifying against fellow party leaders and even replace them before the committee’s final decision comes out.

“Once the proceedings commence, I will be available to provide details of the party’s case against each of the accused. In the meantime, and moving under the above-mentioned constitutional provision, I will be making appointments on acting basis to offices held by the above-mentioned members,” the statement read in part.

From sacking the party Spokesperson Ssemujju as party Chief Whip in Parliament, to sanctioning him and other leaders for disciplinary action, all eyes are waiting to see whether the group will honor the party President’s disciplinary call.
