Five Police Officers Charged with Aggravated Robbery, Murder

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit in liaison with Regional Police, Kyoga East, have on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, arraigned and charged five Police officers (attached to Bukedea) before the Magistrates Court of Bukedea. The officers were charged with aggravated robbery and remanded till Friday, July 7, 2023.

According to Police preliminary report, on the night of June 4, 2023, the accused reportedly armed with SMG guns, broke into the house of Alfred Agume, a campaign agent of candidate Steven Omagor, with the intention to steal Omagor’s Electoral documents and other property in order to bar him from being nominated in the recently concluded LCV by-elections in Bukedea district.

The officers are identified as D/ASP Alex Ehguloiti, PC Onesmus Akankwasa, D/C Simon Peter Oriokot, PC Difas Kamakoin and PC Born Naibei.

During the investigations, it was established that D/ASP Ehguloiti had other police files related to other similar acts done during the 2021 elections.

These files were processed and the suspect (Ehguloiti) has been charged with murder and aggravated torture of two suspects in police custody, who later succumbed to injuries.
