African Para Games to Feature Wheelchair Tennis, Basketball, and Amputee Football

On Sunday, September 3rd saw the inaugural edition of the African Para Games, referred to as “Accra 2023,” at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra by Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, the games are staged in Ghana between September 3 and 12 2023

During the inaugural ceremony, Ussif expressed that President Nana Akufo-Addo is in complete support and passionately endorses the Para Games in Ghana, and recognizes its significance beyond mere athletic competition.

Mr. Andrew Parsons, the President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), commended Ghana for its commendable effort and decision to organise the Para Games in Africa. The organisation of such an event for the first time can be a challenge.

He further noted that the IPC is willing to invest in Africa because there is a bright future for Para Sports in Africa

The inaugural ceremony featured the participation of several countries, including Algeria, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Gambia, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

The State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, led the Ugandan delegation to African Para Games, in Ghana

The sporting events will feature persons with physical disabilities participating in Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, and Amputee Football.
